Group of parametric processes and optical vortices

Head of scientific group:
Prof. habil. dr. Valerijus Smilgevičius
Description:
The main research activities in Group of parametric processes and vortices are:
• Experimental investigations of fundamental three-wave optical parametric generation and amplification processes in bulk crystals as well as periodically poled materials, namely transformations of spatial profile during parametric light interaction, control over spectral bandwidth and exploration of new pumping schemes. Also, the concept of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification is exploited for the generation of ultrashort powerful pulses in the visible to obtain a TW-class level radiation.
• Special attention is paid to unusual light structures such as quasi-nondiffracting Bessel beams and optical vortices. The investigation of formation, propagation and nonlinear transformations of special spatial structures in media with second and third order nonlinearities are performed.
